Advanced Planning in a High(er) Interest Rate Environment

Inflation and other federal monetary policies have driven federal interest rates up almost four percent in the last three years. This is a vast difference from the small fluctuations we experienced between 2010 and 2022. This high interest rate environment creates unique opportunities in both estate planning and administration. Not only does it bring back into vogue certain strategies that benefit from a high interest rate such as Charitable Remainder Trusts and Qualified Personal Residence Trusts, it can create some opportunities for existing planning. The speakers will look at some unique case studies where interest rates can be leveraged for estate planning purposes. Administrations with illiquid estates will be impacted by the price of debt and significant interest rate fluctuations around key valuation dates. The speaker will discuss how to address existing planning that may be impacted by the high interest rate environment such as rolling GRATs, Charitable Lead Trusts and IDGT sales. How will you take advantage of this unique moment in time?
