SEPC April Meeting

April Meeting
Planning for What’s Next: Strategizing Within the New Tax Framework
Speaker
Katie Gardner, J.D., Director, Institute for Trust and Estate Planning - Bernstein
Description
Now that the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBBA) has passed and exemptions have been increased and deemed permanent, questions remain for high-net-worth individuals regarding options to eliminate estate taxes.
During the past years, as we anticipated the exemption rates to sunset and be significantly reduced, some individuals created plans and funded Grantor Trusts to reduce the size of their estates altogether. With a permanent and large exemption, they may be having second thoughts about work that has been completed; however, they still have the option to convert their trusts to a non-grantor status.
Other individuals did not make any plans, and their estates continue to grow. They may want to consider gifting now and funding Grantor Trusts to eliminate estate taxes in the future.
Using Financial modeling, this presentation will illustrate and discuss options for individuals given the permanent estate tax exemption forecast with OBBBA in various circumstances.
